F Forecasting the path of China’s CO2 emissions using provincelevel information Maximilian Auffhammer , Richard T. Carson Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 207 Giannini Hall, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720-3310, USA University of California, San Diego, USA Received 31 December 2006 O CT ED P RO Abstract Our results suggest that the anticipated path of China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions has dramatically increased over the last five years. The magnitude of the projected increase in Chinese emissions out to 2010 is several times larger than reductions embodied in the Kyoto Protocol. Our estimates are based on a unique provincial-level panel data set from the Chinese Environmental Protection Agency. This data set contains considerably more information relevant to the path of likely Chinese greenhouse gas emissions than national level time series models currently in use. Model selection criteria clearly reject the popular static environmental Kuznets curve specification in favor of a class of dynamic models with spatial dependence. r 2008 Published by Elsevier Inc. Investigating the Differences in CO2 Emission in the Transport Sector Across Iranian Provinces: Evidence from a Quantile Regression Model
Improving the quality of the environment is a desired goal of any economy. In this regard, given the important role of the transportation sector in the emission of pollutants, policy makers should focus on identifying the factors affecting CO2 emissions in the transport sector. This study examines the factors affecting the differences of CO2 emissions in the transportation sector in Iranian pro...
متن کاملForecasting province-level CO2 emissions in China
Due to criticisms of potential identification issues within spatial panel data models, this study contributes to the literature by comparing forecasts of provincelevel carbon dioxide emissions against empirical reality using dynamic, spatial panel data models with and without fixed effects. From a policy standpoint, understanding how to predict emissions is important for designing climate chang...
متن کاملOptimal Path for Controlling Sectoral CO2 Emissions Among China’s Regions: A Centralized DEA Approach
Abstract: This paper proposes a centralized data envelopment analysis (DEA) model for industrial optimization based on several different production technologies among several regions. We developed this model based on improved Kuosmanen environmental DEA technology, which avoids positive shadow price on undesirable outputs. We also designed a dual model for our centralized DEA model, and used it...

To find the key impact factors of CO2 emissions to realize the carbon intensity target, this paper examined the impact factors of population, economic level, technology level, urbanization level, industrialization level, service level, energy consumption structure and foreign trade degree on the energy-related CO2 emissions in Guangdong Province, China from 1980 to 2010 using an extended STIRPA...
متن کاملNew technologies reduce greenhouse gas emissions from nitrogenous fertilizer in China.
Synthetic nitrogen (N) fertilizer has played a key role in enhancing food production and keeping half of the world's population adequately fed. However, decades of N fertilizer overuse in many parts of the world have contributed to soil, water, and air pollution; reducing excessive N losses and emissions is a central environmental challenge in the 21st century. China's participation is essentia...
